If you’ve been looking forward to a smarter, more personalized Siri, you’ll need to hang tight a little longer. Apple has officially confirmed that its next-generation AI-powered Siri won’t be arriving as soon as expected. Initially introduced as a key feature of Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, the upgraded Siri was supposed to bring context-aware assistance, app automation, and deeper personalization.
But now, Apple says the rollout is delayed until sometime next year.
Why Is Siri’s AI Overhaul Taking So Long?
According to Apple spokesperson Jacqueline Roy, Siri has already seen improvements in recent months—such as better conversational skills, a type-to-Siri option, improved product knowledge, and even ChatGPT integration. However, the real challenge is much bigger:
Teaching Siri to understand and act on personal context across multiple apps—without errors.
Reports suggest Apple’s software team, led by Craig Federighi, tested the latest Siri prototype and weren’t satisfied with the results. Some insiders even claim that parts of the project may need to be rebuilt from scratch before they’re ready for public release.
What Was the New Siri Supposed to Do?
Apple set high expectations when it unveiled the Apple Intelligence-powered Siri at WWDC 2024. Here’s what was originally promised:
Context Awareness – Siri could fetch details from your emails, notes, or messages when needed.
On-Screen Awareness – If a friend texted you their new address, you could simply say, “Add this to their contact”, and Siri would handle it.
App Actions – You’d be able to say, “Send the email I drafted to Sarah,” and Siri would know exactly which email and which app you meant.
These features were expected to launch with iOS 18.4 this year, but with this delay, there’s no clear timeline for their arrival.
How Has Siri Improved So Far?
While the full AI-driven Siri experience is still in development, Apple has already made some smaller upgrades:
Better at handling multiple requests in a row
Understands you even if you stumble over words
ChatGPT-powered responses for complex queries
Apple Intelligence: What’s Already Here?
Even though Siri’s biggest features are delayed, Apple Intelligence has started rolling out new AI-powered tools across iPhones, iPads, and Macs, including:
- Writing Tools (rewrite, summarize, and edit text)
- Genmoji (AI-generated emoji)
- Image Playground (fun AI-generated images)
- Smart Reply (suggested responses in messages)
- Priority Messages in Mail (AI sorts important emails for you)
- Better photo search and editing tools
When Will the New Siri Finally Arrive?
If you were hoping for a fully AI-powered Siri with deep personalization, some analysts believe we might not see it until iOS 20. That means the wait could extend until late 2025 or even 2026.
For now, Apple is taking its time to get things right—but it remains to be seen whether the final product will live up to the hype.
Would you rather wait for a perfected AI-driven Siri, or do you think Apple should release features as they’re ready? Let’s discuss!
