Apple is expanding its AI ambitions, and after integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT into Siri, the tech giant may soon collaborate with Google’s Gemini AI for a deeper AI-powered experience.
Apple’s Growing AI Push with iOS 18
Apple’s iOS 18.2 update introduced the first steps of Apple Intelligence (AI), allowing users to reroute Siri searches to ChatGPT—marking the first system-wide third-party AI integration on Apple devices.
Now, a leak from MacRumors analyst Aaron Perris suggests that Google’s Gemini AI might soon become part of Apple’s AI ecosystem.
Google’s Gemini Appears in iOS 18.4 Beta Code
Perris shared a screenshot of code from the iOS 18.4 beta, revealing a "Third-party model" section that now lists Google as an option alongside OpenAI.

This aligns with comments from Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior VP of Software Engineering, who hinted at WWDC 2024 that Apple intends to work with multiple AI providers, including Google Gemini.
“Nothing to announce right now, but that’s our direction,” Federighi stated, acknowledging Google as a potential AI partner.
Will Google’s Gemini Be Available on iPhones Soon?
Despite the iOS 18.4 beta leak, reports suggest that Apple may delay Gemini AI integration until at least the iPhone 17 series launch in 2025.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that Apple might grant OpenAI an exclusive period before bringing in other AI partners like Google.
For now, users can access ChatGPT through Siri and Apple’s AI Writing Tools, using features like Compose to generate text and images.
