Ola News: In a historic decision, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has directed the leading online ride-hailing platform Ola to implement a system that allows customers to choose their preferred method of refund. The CCPA has said that customers should get their refund either directly in their bank account or through coupons.
Apart from this, Ola has also been directed to provide customers with a bill or receipt for all auto rides booked through the Ola app, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in its services.
Right now only a coupon-based refund facility is available.
According to the press release issued by the Consumer Ministry, CCPA found that whenever customers complained about the Ola app, the company used to provide only a coupon code under its no-questions-answer refund policy. Which could be used only for the next ride. That is, customers did not get the option to decide whether they wanted the refund in the account or in the form of a coupon code.
This policy of the company is a violation of consumer rights. Because a refund cannot mean that the company forces customers to take another ride.
Not paying bills is a violation of rules: CCPA.
Apart from this, the consumer department also found that if a customer wants to download the bill for the auto ride booked on Ola, then he is told that due to the change in Ola's auto service terms and conditions, the bill will not be given for the auto ride. Not giving the bill for the goods sold or the facilities provided is a violation of the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
