AAP leader Atishi has requested a meeting between AAP MLAs and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to discuss the ₹2,500 monthly aid for women—a promise made by the BJP during its assembly poll campaign.
Atishi Questions Delay in Implementation
In a letter to CM Gupta on Saturday, Atishi raised concerns over why the financial aid scheme for women was not approved during the new government's first cabinet meeting. She pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured voters in an election rally that the scheme would be implemented immediately after the BJP took office.
BJP’s Victory and First Cabinet Meeting
Gupta, along with her council of ministers, was sworn in on Thursday after the BJP defeated the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi Assembly elections held earlier this month.
- The BJP secured a clear majority, winning 48 out of 70 seats.
- AAP, now in opposition, managed to win 22 seats, including Atishi’s Kalkaji constituency.
Atishi, who served as a minister in the previous AAP government, has sought an appointment to meet CM Gupta on February 23, along with other AAP MLAs, to discuss the status of the ₹2,500 aid scheme.
"Women of Delhi Feel Betrayed"
Atishi reminded CM Gupta of PM Modi’s promise, stating:
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an election rally in Dwarka on January 31, promised Delhi’s mothers and sisters that the ₹2,500 monthly aid scheme would be passed in the first cabinet meeting after the BJP formed the government."
However, the first cabinet meeting on February 20 did not approve the scheme, leaving many women in Delhi feeling "betrayed," Atishi claimed.
BJP Assures Implementation by March
In response, BJP leaders, including CM Rekha Gupta, have assured that the scheme will be implemented in March, as promised during the election campaign.
