New Delhi: There have been restrictive work recdfs for employees belonging to china who are stationed in India for employment in factories allocated for the Apple iphone. This come in as there are already tensions between India and China, Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer, Foxconn Technology Group has also imposed a limit to new work rotations for its Chinese workers at its Indian plants.

Needless to say, this would further Exacerbate the already existing tension as reported by Rest of World since the company has begun deploying Taiwanese employees to its factories in India. Though there is an underlying strategy yet the exodus of Chinese workers from India would further affect normal operations at Foxconn controlled factories in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. It is worth noting that together the two facilities combine around 50,000 workers.

On that note, the report also discussed the masive effect these changes would have on economic operations between China and India, wherein the India based Foxconn operations had sourced specialized manufacturing equipment from China that were shifted to Taiwanese operated states. However, the fact still stands that the Foxconn run factories in India heavily depend on workers and equipment from China while recently made attempts to recruit Taiwanese workers.

As reported by Rest of World, a source was quoted saying, “At present, China prevents us, equipment, and personnel from deploying to India and India does not have the ability to assemble such equipment,” which explains how the Chinese government is to blame for the suspension of worker movements and equipment exports previously mentioned in the report.

This Unsanctioned Approach via China has led to experts theorizing that if the current trend of sanctions and restrains to proliferate, it will completely shatter Apple’s goal of creating or deploying next-gen iPhones manufacturing plants in India alongside their long term partner Foxconn, which wont be held because currently Apple is fighting tooth and nail against the restrictions on Indian polyethylene for remote trade.

In the year 2019, Foxconn started constructing a factory in Tamil Nadu, and only recently in 2022 did they begin recruiting employees and setting up additional facilities within the country. During the time frame since 2022 Foxconn has worked on growing their manufacturing abilities and expanded to setting facilities in Karnataka and Telangana.

To this date, Foxconn has poured upwards of $1.4 billion dollars alongside the business from India crossing $10 billion as claimed by head magistrate Liu over $10 billion. In the lone plant located in Tamil Nadu, there are over 40 thousand employees currently working and the plant has started the manufacturing of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16.

The most recent incident has confirmed suspicions held by professionals that China’s paranoia over being dethroned as the fore powerhouse of manufacturing will indeed take bleak and cruel actions towards India which is striving to become a self-sustaining economy.

As Rest of World writes, Harsh V Pant, a professor and vice president of studies and foreign policy at the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi, stated that, “The existing complications will persistently guarantee that this type of economic conflict between the two will only increase in intensity.”
