New Delhi: The upcoming Delhi Assembly session, starting February 24, is expected to be a battleground as the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government moves to table 14 pending Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reports. This bold move, led by incoming Speaker Vijender Gupta, aims to shed light on alleged financial irregularities during the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s tenure.
A Highly Anticipated Session Begins February 24
The first day of the Assembly session will be dedicated to the swearing-in ceremony and the election of the Speaker, with Vijender Gupta widely expected to assume the role. However, the real drama is set to unfold on February 25, when the BJP government will officially table the long-pending CAG reports.
Gupta’s Push for Transparency: AAP in the Crosshairs?
Vijender Gupta, a longtime advocate for making these reports public, confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He emphasized that these reports could have a severe impact on AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, drawing parallels to the damaging CAG revelations that had weakened the Congress-led UPA-II government.
“Today, I had a meeting with Chief Minister Smt. @gupta_rekha ji and discussed in detail the agenda of the upcoming assembly session. The reports of #CAG will be presented on the table of the Assembly on February 25,” Gupta posted.
Delhi BJP: “A Commitment to Fighting Corruption”
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva framed the decision as a bold step toward accountability, positioning the BJP government as pro-transparency and anti-corruption—a direct contrast to AAP’s alleged governance failures.
AAP’s Alleged Suppression of CAG Reports
For years, Gupta has accused the AAP government of deliberately withholding these reports, citing fears that they could expose financial mismanagement, corruption, and misuse of public funds.
During his tenure as Leader of Opposition, Gupta repeatedly demanded the release of these reports, but the AAP government resisted, sparking speculation that they contained damaging details about the party’s administration. Now, with the BJP in power, the long-awaited disclosures are finally set to happen.
What’s Next? A Tense Political Faceoff
As the CAG reports are tabled, tensions are expected to rise between BJP and AAP lawmakers. The BJP will likely use the findings to attack the Kejriwal-led administration, while AAP may defend its governance record or accuse the BJP of political vendetta.
With corruption allegations in the spotlight, the upcoming Delhi Assembly session is set to be one of the most politically charged in recent history.
