New Delhi: A city court on Tuesday (February 25) granted anticipatory bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan, who was booked for allegedly attacking a Delhi Police team in Jamia Nagar on February 10.
Court’s Decision on Anticipatory Bail
Special Judge Jitendra Singh granted anticipatory bail to Khan after seeking clarifications from the prosecution.
The court directed Khan to join the investigation as a condition of the bail.
Earlier, Khan had protection from arrest until February 24, which was extended for a day on Monday.
The Delhi Police had submitted CCTV footage and witness statements, requesting custody of the AAP MLA to determine if he was present during the alleged attack.
What Did the Court Say Earlier?
On Monday (Feb 24), the court directed the prosecution to submit a list of pending cases against Khan along with their status.
The court had previously granted interim protection from arrest while hearing arguments on Khan’s anticipatory bail plea.
The police were asked to present CCTV footage and related documents before the court.
AAP MLA's Stand on the Case
Khan filed an application seeking protection from arrest, stating that the allegations against him are false.
He has agreed to join the investigation, as directed by the court.
What Has the Police Alleged?
According to the Delhi Police, Khan allegedly:
- Attacked a police team in Jamia Nagar on February 10.
- Led a mob that helped a proclaimed offender (accused in an attempt-to-murder case) escape from custody.
With the court granting him anticipatory bail, all eyes are now on the ongoing police investigation and whether further legal action will be taken against the AAP leader.
