New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday took a swipe at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, attributing the party’s recent Assembly election defeat to his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to reporters, Saxena recalled Kejriwal’s claim that PM Modi would need another birth to win Delhi and said that the people had responded to him through the election results.

"Kejriwal made several inappropriate statements about the Prime Minister. He even claimed that the PM would have to take another birth to win Delhi. But whenever someone considers another person small, it only means they are either watching from a great distance or seeing with their ego," Saxena said.

AAP’s Poor Performance in Assembly Elections

Election Results (70 Seats in Delhi Assembly):
BJP: 48 seats
AAP: 22 seats

Arvind Kejriwal himself lost the New Delhi seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 4,089 votes.

‘Atishi Named Temporary CM, But Kejriwal Barred from Office’

On AAP leader Atishi being named the temporary Chief Minister, Saxena remarked:

"Yes, they made Atishi CM temporarily, as Kejriwal had said he would return as CM if AAP won. However, the Supreme Court has barred him from signing any files or entering the CM’s office."

This comes as Kejriwal faces legal hurdles that prevent him from performing official duties.

BJP’s New Government to Focus on Development

Earlier, during the first session of the Delhi Assembly after the elections, Saxena stated that the new BJP-led government would focus on fulfilling its manifesto, ‘Viksit Delhi Sankalp Patra’.

"The new government will focus on development work for the people of Delhi and implement the promises made in the manifesto."

On February 24, all newly elected MLAs took oath, marking the beginning of a new political phase in Delhi.

With AAP’s defeat and BJP’s rise in Delhi, the political landscape in the capital is set for significant changes in governance.
