Srinagar: The results of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections have come and the National Conference-Congress alliance has crossed the majority mark. At the same time, the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP has been reduced to just 3 seats. PDP leader Iltija Mufti, who lost the election contesting for the first time from Bijbehara seat in South Kashmir, on Tuesday denied that her party lost because of the alliance with the BJP. She said that many reasons were responsible for her defeat to National Conference leader Bashir Ahmed Veeri.
'This time the people of the valley decided to give NC a chance'
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija said that she had taken a risk but it did not benefit her. She said, 'It was not just about me. There were many reasons behind it. Our party had split, and we lost our seats at the National Conference because people in the valley chose either NC or PDP. This time they decided to give NC a chance and NC got the benefit of PDP's split.'
'We did not lose because of alliance with BJP, the party was attacked'
Iltija said that the PDP faced defeat and could only win 3 seats in the Kashmir Valley because the party was "attacked". She said, "Our 25 MLAs, 2 Rajya Sabha MPs, and many ministers left the party. Along with them, our workers also left the party. This did not happen because of the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Our party was attacked."
In 2014, there was an alliance between the BJP and PDP after the elections.
Let us tell you that in the 2014 elections in Jammu and Kashmir, a hung assembly situation had arisen, after which PDP and BJP formed an alliance to form the government. Talking about her electoral battle, Iltija said that she knew that it was risky. When asked if she would contest the election again, Iltija said that 5 years is a long time. Iljita was defeated by Veeri in the Srigufwara-Bijbehara seat by a margin of 9,770 votes.
