New Delhi: Just hours after Manmohan Singh's death, on Thursday (26 December 2024), Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi made the former Prime Minister's death an issue of political allegations and counter-allegations and tried to make political gains. Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted and alleged that the BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to tarnish Manmohan Singh's image. She claimed that the words of condolence expressed by BJP leaders are for show.

Priyanka Chaturvedi said, "The cabinet led by the Prime Minister may have mourned the death of Dr. Manmohan Singh, but the acts and allegations made against him can never be forgotten. Allegations of tarnishing his image, shameful allegations." How far is it justified to impersonate a great person, assassinate his character and harass him. She further said, "Whatever they say tomorrow will be just hypocrisy. History will properly evaluate their conduct.

Of course Priyanka Chaturvedi cornered Manmohan Singh for criticising him but the Shiv Sena (UBT) ignored the comments made on her by her own party. Especially when she herself was a Congress spokesperson and later joined the Shiv Sena. In 2012, Uddhav Thackeray had mocked former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by calling him a 'wax statue'.
