Under the new rules of SIM card, if you have more than 9 active SIM cards in your name, then you can be fined heavily. This year, TRAI has issued new guidelines for issuing SIM cards, according to which digital KYC (Know Your Customer) has been made mandatory for buying a new SIM card. Not only this, digital KYC is necessary even if you want to get a SIM card for your number again. The telecom operator can verify your document by scanning the QR code given on the Aadhar card to issue you a new SIM card.

Only 9 SIM cards can be issued

Only 9 SIM cards can be issued on one ID i.e. Aadhar card or Voter ID or any other document. Apart from this, business documents are necessary to get bulk SIM cards issued. SIM cards cannot be issued in bulk without proper documentation. Doing so can result in a fine of lakhs of rupees and the business entity can be blacklisted for two years.

Apart from this, a SIM card will be completely blocked only after 90 days of stopping incoming and outgoing calls. Only after this it will be issued to another user. SMS will not be received for 24 hours after swapping or replacing the SIM card. TRAI has taken such steps to prevent OTP fraud. The point of sale or retailer issuing the SIM card will have to register with the telecom operators.
