New Delhi. The Congress party is angry with the Narendra Modi government at the center regarding the last rites of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Actually, the Congress had demanded that a memorial be built at the place where Manmohan Singh's last rites are performed. But the central government has said that the last rites will be performed at Nigambodh Ghat. Politics has now started on this issue.
Jairam Ramesh said this
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has launched a scathing attack on the Modi government on this issue. He wrote on the social media platform X, the Congress President had written a letter to the Prime Minister proposing that the last rites of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh be performed at a place where a memorial can be built to honor his legacy.
The people of our country are unable to understand why the Indian government could not find a place for his funeral and memorial befitting his global stature, record of outstanding achievements and remarkable service to the nation for decades. This is nothing but a deliberate insult to India's first Sikh Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Kharge called PM and Home Minister
Before the funeral, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Kharge has demanded from the central government that a memorial be built at the place where Manmohan Singh's funeral is held. Along with this, Kharge said that building a memorial for Manmohan Singh would be a true tribute to him.
Even opponents respected us
It is worth noting that Dr. Manmohan Singh was known for his calm and simple nature, due to which he was respected even by his political opponents. During the tenure of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, he served as the head of the Indian Planning Commission from 1985 to 1987. Along with this, he was also the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from 1982 to 1985, where he made many important reforms in the banking sector, which are remembered even today.
