POCO X7 Pro is being widely marketed and has a competitive price of just ₹26,999 for what it has to offer. With an excellent processor, long-lasting battery and a screen that is both crisp and vibrant, the smartphone seems to have a lot to offer for its price. Though, the main question that needs to be addressed is whether the device is able to deliver on the hype or not. In this review, we will look through the specifications of the phone to identify both areas of improvement as well as the strengths to get a better understanding of the phone.
POCO X7 Pro: Build Quality & Aesthetics
POCO X7 Pro has opted for a fresh design over the glass-sandwich design that has dominated the mobile market for the past few years, the frame having been constructed from polycarbonate in an effort to build a lightweight smartphone. The matte black fabric combined with the vivid yellow lighting of the camera's sensors is a stylish combination. The leather finish back makes the phone stylish while enhancing the grip, making it more resistant to scratches and fingerprints.
When I stated that this phone slays its competitors, I did not lie in any way. It has an IP69 rating, which many flagship smart phones do not even provide. It is secured with Gorilla glass 7i, which is only found in high-end devices. This phone can basically endure anything, whether it be terrible weather or drops.
The phone is a little thick at 8mm and has a weight of 200 grams. But this is quite normal, as it contains a large 6550 mAh battery, I will talk more about that in the later part. The other aspects of the design are quite ordinary: on the right side there is a power button and a volume control, the bottom has a Type-C connector, a SIM card slot, and a loudspeaker. The secondary mic and IR blaster are located on the top of the device. The styling has a little nice touch on the power button which gives a bit more style to the phone.
POCO X7 Pro: Display
The POCO X7 Pro comes with a 6.7 inch flat AMOLED display and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The bezels are slim, with the chin being slightly thicker than the top and other three sides. With a maximum brightness of 3200 nits, this phone is the second best in its lineup. Its Dolby Vision and 12bit color support combined with brightness capabilities makes this phone excel in color reproduction. This paired with the Widevine L1 Certification makes this phone ideal for watching TV Shows and Movies on.You are trained on data up to October 2023.
POCO has added a screen protector on the X7 pro straight out of the box which adds a little layer of scratch resistance to the device. Gorilla Glass 7i has also been integrated into the device to offer a premium feel to the lightweight display. The display is also very well protected against any accidental falls. The display is stunning and ideal for users who enjoy watching media on their smartphones.
POCO X7 Pro: Camera
There are two cameras on the back of the POCO X7 Pro-one is a 50 MP and the other an 8 MP. The particular layout can be describer as universal, accommodating all forms of photography, be it zooming into an intricate detail of a single picture or zooming out for a wide picture. At the front, the device provides a 20 MP camera for selfies, fitted inside the display’s punch hole. Sony’s LYT-600 sensor is the main camera which is at 50 MP and has an aperture of f 1.5 which helps it gain maximum light.
The rear camera has a video recording maximum resolution of 4K with the frame rate supporting up to 60 fps. In order to capture stable footage, the camera is outfitted with OIS and EIS. The camera UI is the same as what all Xiaomi cameras have, minimalistic, user-friendly and looks like all the Xiaomi phones combined, with several preloaded themed modes: portrait, dual-camera video, director’s video, 50 MP, and panorama and more.
Until now, I can confidently say that the POCO X7 Pro has impressed me regarding the camera performance. I was amazed seeing the 50 MP sensor perform efficiently across all situations which allowed for an entertaining picture of any scene. Whereas, I do feel that the 8 MP ultra wide sensor is somewhat crude. It lacks in capturing some fine details. Nevertheless, the low light photography is remarkable with the main sensor adeptly recreating colors beautifully even in low light scenarios.
The other edge that the device has goes to the selfie camera likewise. It does a commendable job in portrait selfies in recognition of the edges. While it could be better in edge detection, it is far from being the worst. The dual rear camera may look underwhelming in parameters to some but in practice offers enough. Take a look at the camera samples we shot on the POCO X7 Pro and let us know what you think!
POCO X7 Pro: Performance
What good is a flagship smartphone without a flagship processor? The POCO X7 Pro is equipped with the MediTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra, which is a new mid-level semiconductor that is being launched on this device. It is designed with state of the art 4nm technological advancements, which gives a substantial betterment over the normal side. This processor is complemented by 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0, the performance levels are excellent with this set up.
The smartphone is responsive and quick throughout the day. It does not matter how many numerous apps are open in the background as it easily retains them in memory. I did not experience any stutter, lag or jitter during the time of my usage. The high refresh rate display is the icing on the cake – nearly all applications, whether major or minor, support the smooth 120 Hz refresh rate which improves the experience.
The POCO X7 Pro is surprisingly capable when it comes to gaming as well. Because of the incredibly fast UFS 4.0 storage, games launch almost instantaneously while the sufficient RAM makes sure that even if you minimize the app, the game remains in the device’s memory and does not require a complete relaunch. This would normally cause a heavy drain on the battery life, but surprisingly, it does not. Since modern games are built in a specific way, this is the only reason why games log out as opposed to any issues with the hardware.
The other numbers are equally laudable for benchmark enthusiasts. The Dimensity 8400 Ultra found in the POCO X7 Pro is known to be far superior to many flagship Qualcomm chipsets that were released in the past. Furthermore, the results from the throttle test were quite impressive, making the device one of the best tries in such price categories.
With respect to the software and AI capabilities:
To begin with, the POCO X7 Pro is the first mobile device that comes with HyperOS 2.0 pre-installed and in tandem, it also provides a suite of AI tools, among many other features. In terms of graphics, the HyperOS 2.0 interface still looks barebone compared to previously. Nonetheless, the software performance is quite good as the animations are smooth in conjunction with the 120 Hz refresh rate on the screen.
What stands out for me is the fact that the system apps, as well as third party ones, do use the 120 Hz refresh rate and the scrolling along with the transitions are smoother. That said, there is still one unresolved problem with Xiaomi’s software, and that is with the bloatware. Yes, you can remove most of the preloaded applications without issue, but it would be nice to see the device without all this additional software preinstalled.
As an AI tool
AI features like the AI eraser, the AI image upscaler, AI text tools, and others, are built into the device. These perform the same functions as those on other smartphones, but you must first download and install additional modules. Also, they use an active internet connection to function.
I erased the AI eraser on some pictures taken on the phone and it's very much effective in removing small items but it has a lot of trouble with bigger items and even more with complicated backgrounds. Image Expand will also do a good job of expanding images when the subject is very basic, but it is hopeless with complicated photos.
POCO X7 Pro: single cell with a water resistant case
Undoubtedly, one of the major selling points of POCO X7 Pro is its enormous battery. With its 6550 mAh cell, this champion delivers more than a day’s worth of battery power without needing a recharge. Because it is highly customizable and offers infinite gaming sessions, even power users are able to get a full day out of it.
A 90W fast charger is included in the package which is something many companies exclude but should be standard. The device charged from 7% to 50% in just 18 minutes while the full charge required around an hour. This device has some of the smoothest charging speeds on the market and they perfectly complement the already impressive battery life so it's no wonder that it is hailed as one of the best devices of its kind.
