The daughter of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, Beeda Madhuri, allegedly ran over a 22-year-old man sleeping on a pavement near Besant Nagar in Chennai on Monday night (June 17).

The incident has sparked a furore as Madhuri, who was allegedly driving the BMW car, was released on station bail after she surrendered on Tuesday morning (June 18).

According to a top police source, the police erred by letting the accused leave on station bail instead of court bail.

The police identified the deceased as Surya, a painter who stayed in Odaikuppam.

According to the police, Surya had an argument with his wife Vanitha. After consuming alcohol, he slept on a pavement about 2 km away from his home.

Vanitha, concerned for his safety, went searching for him and found him on the pavement.
