TRAI has decided to give relief to the country's 120 crore mobile users from fake calls. The telecom regulator has recently made a big change in the rules of commercial communication to curb spam calls and messages. Now the telecom regulator is going to bring a new DND (Do-Not-Disturb) app for mobile users, through which users will be able to stop commercial calls and messages coming on their phones.

The increasing number of fake calls will be curbed

The regulator has taken this decision in view of the increasing fraud through fake calls and messages in recent times. If reports are to be believed, this app of TRAI can be launched next year. The telecom regulator has asked all the stakeholders to explore the technical feasibility of the new AI features of the DND app. This app will be launched two months after the stakeholders complete these technical feasibility.

After the launch of AI spam filter by telecom companies, about 800 entities and more than 18 lakh mobile numbers have been blocked. Telecom operators are blocking fake calls at the network level through AI filter. TRAI believes that this blocking should also happen at the user level, for which it is necessary to upgrade the DND app.

The new DND app will benefit

Currently, users can set their commercial communication preferences through the DND app. Apart from this, users can report any spam call but this action will be taken at the service provider's level. Unsolicited commercial communication can be controlled through the new DND app.

TRAI launched its DND app in 2016. This app was launched to stop fake calls, but this app could not attract many users. TRAI is now going to upgrade this app so that more and more mobile users can get its benefit. Not only this, the telecom regulator has recently made many changes in the policy to curb fake calls and messages.
