New Delhi: The stock market closed with gains for the second consecutive day today. Sensex closed at 78,699 with a jump of 227 points on its monthly expiry day, while the Nifty 50 index registered a gain of 63 points and closed at 23,813 points. Both benchmark indices traded in the green mark throughout today's trading. In today's trading session, more buying was seen in pharma and auto shares, due to which Nifty Pharma and Nifty Auto indices closed at the top.

Shares of Dr. Reddy's closed the day at Rs 1,389, up 2.54 per cent from the Nifty 50 pack, while Mahindra & Mahindra closed 2.49% higher at Rs 3,049. Following this, shares of IndusInd Bank rose 2.31% to close at Rs 953.40, while Eicher Motors rose 1.58% to close at Rs 4,877. Besides, shares of Bajaj Finance closed at 6,908, up 1.35%.

On the other hand, in today's trading, the steel sector company Hindalco owned by Aditya Birla Group saw the biggest decline of 1.81% and closed at Rs 617.40, while the shares of government company Coal India Limited fell 1.58% to close at Rs 380.50. After this, PSU bank stock SBI fell 1.58% to close at 799.65 and ONGC registered a decline of 1.40%, after which its shares closed at Rs 236.90. On the other hand, BEL shares witnessed a decline of 1.07% and closed at Rs 292.05.

Good growth in Pharma and IT

Talking about sectoral indices, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Auto have seen the highest increase. Nifty Pharma index closed at 23,008 level with a gain of 1.30%, while Nifty Auto closed at 23,099 level with a gain of 0.97%. Nifty FMCG closed at 56,444 level with a jump of 0.33%. Bank Nifty closed at 51,311 level with a gain of 0.27%. At the same time, Nifty IT closed at 43,721 level with a gain of 0.13%.
