Adar Poonawalla's Serene Productions is buying a 50% stake in Karan Johar's Dharma Production House for Rs 1000 crore. Dharma Productions, formed in 1976, has been looking for a big investor for the past few months. Before Poonawalla, he was in talks with Reliance Industries as well as music company Saregama. Talks with these companies did not work out regarding the valuation deal and Adar Poonawalla, popularly known as Vaccine King, won the deal. According to this deal, a 50% stake in Dharma Productions will remain with Karan Johar. He will remain the executive chairman of the company. Along with this, Apoorva Mehta will continue as the Chief Executive Officer of the company. Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla's wife Natasha Poonawalla are good friends.

Adar Poonawalla took charge of Serum Institute of India in the year 2011. Since taking charge of the company, he has been continuously expanding his business.
