New Delhi: Most parts of the country are in the grip of severe cold and dense fog, due to which life is being badly affected. The effect of fog is being seen in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh including Delhi-NCR. On Friday, visibility reached zero in many areas of Delhi, the effect of which can be seen till Saturday morning. Along with this, 507 flights were affected due to fog at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), while 15 flights had to be canceled.
Chances of rain in cities
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the western disturbance is active due to the cyclonic circulation formed in western Afghanistan and surrounding areas. Due to this, light to moderate rain and lightning is expected in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttarakhand on January 5-6. At the same time, heavy rain and snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh between January 4 and 6. Himachal Pradesh may also receive snowfall between January 5-6.

traffic system affected
Dense fog on Friday and Saturday disrupted traffic in Delhi and other parts of North India. Apart from air flights, train operations were also affected. Dozens of trains were delayed by hours. Dense fog has been warned for the entire day in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and parts of Uttar Pradesh. Visibility has reached 200 meters in Bahraich and Kanpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Visibility has been recorded at 500 meters in Safdarjung and Palam in Delhi, and the same situation prevails in Patiala and Amritsar in Punjab.

Appeal to people to be cautious
The Meteorological Department says that there will be no significant change in the minimum temperature of eastern and central India for the next five days. However, after 2-3 days, the temperature may increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius. After stabilizing the temperature in western India, it may fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has appealed to people to be cautious and avoid traveling during dense fog.
