Pataliputra University becomes the fifth University in the Bihar State to ad within the additional charge of the Aryabhatt Knowledge University aided initiative on Wednesday.

The position of Pataliputra University has been handed over to FZU Agra KD Sharma. And Aryabhatta Knowledge University President Sharad Kumar Yadav will assume the additional charge, as the tenure of the present VC/Director, Dr RK Singh, ends on 14th January.

Yadav said he will take additional charge on January 15, since current Vice Chancellor R K Singh's term is scheduled to end at that date.

He would do so only because this is a provisional adjustment order until a suitable candidate is appointed, reported the principal secretary to the Governor .I am reporting this as Prof Sharad Kumar Yadav has been able to secure nominations for the Vice Chancellor of this presentation college for as long as or until the following instructions, whichever comes first. 15 January 2025. At Nalanda Open University and Purnea University, Vice Chancellor positions were occupied by the Pro Vice Chancellors, as they were deemed suitable. Also, Bihar Animal Science University was offered as a supplementary charge. Ad hoc measures are still in force.

While the chancellor’s office had advertised for the position of VC in or around June 2024, the advertisement needs to be published again as the chancellor’s office has not followed up on it since. There are also rumors that the newly appointed Governor, Arif Mohammad Khan may opt for a new advertisement for the position.

In Bihar state universities, VC appointments are term bound for a span of three years and are often characterized by a stretch of ad-hocism with VCs being given overbearing extra duties. “None of the state universities is in good shape. That means the concerned VCs are not able to handle the universities they have been appointed at. How will they handle two or three universities. The process for VCs’ appointment should begin well on time,” commented, NK Choudhary, a former professor at Patna university.
