A Bangladeshi national, who had been living in India for the last 26 years on the basis of fake documents, was arrested during a routine security check at the Mumbai International Airport, police said on Tuesday. According to immigration officials, the accused has been identified as Swapan Kumar Haripad Mandal, who was stopped from boarding a Riyadh-bound flight on Saturday. Officials said Mandal was stopped on suspicion after discrepancies were noticed in his passport details.

What did the person say during interrogation?

During interrogation, it was found that Mandal was using a fake Indian passport. When the officers investigated him, they found that he had already traveled to China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) twice using fake passports. An officer said, "Mandal's passport was issued in Jeddah, but his way of speaking made the officers suspicious. After this, on further interrogation, he said that he is a Bangladeshi citizen and has been living illegally in India for the last 26 years."

The wife's fake passport was also recovered.

The investigation also revealed that Mandal's passport had fake details showing the use of Indian documents while his address was in Bangladesh. Apart from this, a fake passport of his wife was also recovered from him. Immigration officials handed over Mandal to Mumbai Police and the police have started further investigation.
