A massive crowd at New Delhi Railway Station led to suffocation-related hospitalizations on Saturday, as passengers struggled to board trains at platforms 13 and 14.

While Delhi Fire Services described the situation as "stampede-like," injuring more than 10 people, Delhi Police dismissed reports of an actual stampede.

Overcrowding Triggers Chaos

Video footage circulating on social media shows thousands of passengers trying to board two delayed trains bound for Varanasi via Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

  • The delayed arrivals of these trains led to an unmanageable rush.
  • Many passengers were headed to Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, further intensifying the crowd.

A passenger speaking to ABP News described the situation:

"I have a confirmed ticket, but there is not an inch of space to walk."

Railways and Authorities Respond

Both the Railways and Delhi Police ruled out an official stampede, but ABP News correspondent Divyankar Tiwari, reporting from the scene, confirmed that over 10 ambulances were present to assist the injured.

Authorities are expected to review crowd management measures at railway stations, especially with large-scale events like the Maha Kumbh Mela leading to surges in passenger traffic.
