The father of the Kolkata RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim has raised serious concerns about the investigation into his daughter's tragic death. In an emotional statement, he questioned the handling of the case by the authorities, alleging that multiple individuals were involved in the crime and accusing West Bengal's Chief Minister of orchestrating evidence tampering in the investigation.

In his ongoing fight for justice, the victim’s father revealed that his family had filed a petition in the High Court, submitting a list of 54 questions aimed at obtaining clarity and justice for his daughter. He expressed frustration at the lack of progress and transparency in the case, particularly regarding the role of the police and the involvement of high-ranking individuals.

Allegations of Evidence Tampering

The father emphasized that the investigation had been marred by evidence tampering, accusing the Chief Minister of being the leader behind this illicit activity. Despite the police bringing in dog squads to assist in the investigation, the victim’s family claimed that they have not received any reports or updates from the authorities. The father said, "Many men are involved in my daughter's rape and murder. And there are many hands involved in evidence tampering. West Bengal CM is leading the process of evidence tampering."

He continued, “We have filed a case in the High Court and submitted 54 questions. It is with the court to bring us those answers so that my daughter gets justice. We have faith in the courts, and the courts are working fairly, as per our wishes.”

Lawyer’s Statement: Urgent Need for CBI Oversight

The victim’s lawyer, Karuna Nundy, expressed concern over the handling of the case as well. Nundy pointed out that it had been 180 days since two key individuals—Abhijit Mondol, the in-charge of Tala Police Station, and Sandeep Ghosh, the Principal of RG Kar Medical College—were arrested. However, she noted that Mondol, who was accused of evidence tampering, was granted default bail within 90 days of his arrest, with a low surety amount of Rs 2000 and no strict bail conditions.

Nundy’s team has now filed a petition before the Calcutta High Court, requesting that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) oversee the investigation. “It is a combination of our courts and the CBI that will result in the robust chargesheet,” Nundy said. She clarified that there were false reports circulating that they had requested a fresh investigation, and their plea had been rejected. "We made an application before the Supreme Court, and the CJI has now allowed our application. We can now proceed with the petition in the Calcutta High Court."

Supreme Court’s Ruling: Victim's Family Granted Access to Calcutta High Court

On Monday, the Supreme Court of India granted the parents of the victim the liberty to approach the Calcutta High Court in their pursuit of justice. A bench led by Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, ruled in favor of the victim's family, noting that a single judge bench of the Calcutta High Court is already monitoring the case. This development allows the victim's parents to continue their fight for justice with the guidance and oversight of the High Court.

As the case continues to unfold, the victim’s family remains steadfast in their quest for justice, determined to uncover the truth behind the crime. With the support of their lawyer, Karuna Nundy, and the involvement of the Calcutta High Court and the CBI, they hope to see a robust investigation that will hold the perpetrators accountable.

The case has drawn attention to serious concerns about the handling of criminal investigations in the state, especially when influential individuals are involved. The allegations of evidence tampering and the slow progress of the investigation highlight the need for transparency and accountability within law enforcement.

The outcome of the Calcutta High Court’s review and the involvement of the CBI will be crucial in ensuring that justice is served for the victim and her grieving family.
