Surat, March 7, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took a swipe at the Congress, stating that those with zero seats may struggle to count the zeros in ₹32 lakh crore disbursed under the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana.
His remarks came while addressing a gathering in Surat, where he launched the Food Security Saturation Campaign.
PM Modi’s Jibe at Congress Over ‘Zero Seats’
Modi’s comments were a direct reference to the Congress party’s poor performance in the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, where it failed to secure a single seat. This marks the third consecutive election in which Congress drew a blank in Delhi, a fact Modi used to criticize the opposition.
Modi’s Statement:
"We have disbursed ₹32 lakh crore in loans to poor citizens under the MUDRA scheme so far. Those who abuse us, those with zero seats, may not even be able to count the zeros in ₹32 lakh crore."
The Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY), launched in 2015, is a flagship scheme aimed at providing affordable credit to micro and small enterprises, helping millions of small business owners and self-employed individuals.
Income Tax Exemption to Benefit Salaried Class & Small Businesses
Speaking about the Union Budget 2025-26, Modi highlighted the proposal to increase income tax exemption up to ₹12 lakh, a move that will benefit the salaried class, small business owners, and workers.
This move is expected to:
Reduce tax burden on middle-class families
Boost disposable income
Encourage savings and investments
Food Security Campaign & PDS Reforms
As part of his visit to Surat, Modi launched the Food Security Saturation Campaign, emphasizing that the initiative will serve as an inspiration for other districts across India.
Public Distribution System (PDS) Reforms
Key Announcement: The government has eliminated 5 crore bogus ration cards, ensuring that food grains reach genuine beneficiaries.
PM Modi’s Vision:
"Our goal is to provide proper nutrition to every family in the country and fight issues like malnutrition and anemia."
Women to Take Over Modi’s Social Media on International Women’s Day
Ahead of International Women’s Day (March 8, 2025), the Prime Minister announced that women would be given control of his social media accounts for the day.
This initiative aims to empower women and highlight their contributions to society.
It aligns with Modi’s broader efforts to promote gender equality and women’s leadership.
PM Modi’s address in Surat was packed with political jabs, policy highlights, and governance achievements. His remarks on Congress’ electoral failures, MUDRA loans, income tax exemptions, and food security initiatives reinforce his government’s focus on economic growth and welfare policies.
With the 2025-26 budget promising relief for taxpayers and major strides in public welfare, Modi continues to project his government as pro-poor and development-oriented, while keeping up his political attacks on the opposition.
