A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside a parked bus at Swargate ST stand in Pune, early on Tuesday morning. The horrific crime has sparked outrage and protests, with authorities vowing swift action against the perpetrator.
What Happened?
Time & Location: 5:30 AM, Tuesday at Swargate Bus Stand, Pune
Victim’s Situation: The woman was waiting for a bus to return home.
How the Crime Took Place:
- The accused Dattatray Ramdas Gade approached her, pretending to help.
- He falsely claimed that her bus was parked elsewhere.
- He then lured her into an isolated parked bus and allegedly raped her.
The accused is currently on the run, and a massive manhunt has been launched to track him down.
Police & Government’s Response
Pune Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Smarthana Patil said:
"A working woman was waiting for her bus when a man misled her and took her to a parked bus where he raped her. We have identified the accused and are making all efforts to nab him. The victim is stable right now."

Multiple teams have been formed to track the accused.
23 security guards posted at Swargate Bus Stand have been suspended.
The depot manager and traffic controller will be questioned.
Maharashtra Transport Minister has ordered an inquiry report within a week.
‘Extremely Shameful & Painful’: Ajit Pawar Condemns Crime
Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar called the crime “unforgivable” and demanded the death penalty for the accused.
“The accused deserves no punishment except the death penalty. I have instructed the Pune Police Commissioner to ensure his immediate arrest. CM Devendra Fadnavis has also taken this case seriously, and the state government will ensure the harshest punishment for the rapist.”
Instructions have been given to the Minister of Women & Child Development and the State Women’s Commission to provide justice, mental support, and all possible assistance to the victim.
Public Outrage & Protests
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vasant More and party workers protested at Swargate Bus Stand demanding immediate action.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the case and directed police to ensure a fair and time-bound investigation.
