New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the father of economic reforms, was cremated with state honors at Nigam Bodh Ghat on Saturday (28 December 2024). At the same time, politics has intensified regarding the place of his cremation and memorial site. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has accused the central government of insulting former PM Manmohan Singh over his funeral.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a post on Twitter, “The present government has completely insulted Dr. Manmohan Singh, a great son of Mother India and the first Prime Minister from the Sikh community, by cremating him at the Nigam Bodh Ghat today.” He was the Prime Minister of India for a decade, during his tenure the country became an economic superpower and his policies are still supporting the poor and backward classes of the country.
