The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday strongly criticized YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, over his controversial remarks made during Samay Raina's comedy show, 'India's Got Latent'. The Court stated that his comments reflected a disturbing level of depravity, adding that such statements were shameful and obscene.

"If this is not obscenity, then what is? Why should we quash or club FIRs against you?" the Supreme Court bench, led by Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh, questioned.

SC Stays Arrest But Criticizes Content

Despite the severe criticism, the Court granted a stay on Ranveer Allahbadia’s arrest in relation to the FIRs filed against him in Maharashtra, Assam, and Rajasthan for obscenity. However, the Court refused to quash the FIRs, stating that such content should not go unchecked.

The Court clarified that:

  • No further FIRs shall be registered against Ranveer based solely on his participation in 'India’s Got Latent'.
  • If any new FIR is filed in Jaipur, the arrest will remain stayed.
  • He is allowed to seek protection from local police in Maharashtra and Assam if he faces any threats.

However, in a strict condition, Ranveer must deposit his passport with the Thane police and cannot leave India without Supreme Court’s permission.

SC Condemns Ranveer’s Comments as 'Depravity'

The Supreme Court did not hold back in its criticism, calling out the YouTuber for his shameful remarks. The bench remarked:

  • "The words you have chosen—parents will feel ashamed, daughters and sisters will feel ashamed, the entire society will be ashamed."
  • "These are the levels of depravity you and your henchmen have gone to."
  • "We are not sitting in ivory towers; we know you copied an Australian show. Such shows carry warnings."

The Court further slammed the argument of freedom of speech, asserting that it does not give anyone a license to say anything against societal norms.

"There is something dirty in his mind that he has vomited on YouTube," the judges remarked.

Conclusion

While Ranveer Allahbadia has received temporary relief from arrest, the Supreme Court's harsh words reflect the growing concerns over social media content and the responsibility of influencers. The case highlights the fine balance between freedom of expression and social decency, raising questions about online content regulation and ethical responsibility in digital media.
