The Supreme Court has ordered the formation of a new SIT (Special Investigation Team) on the Tirupati Laddu controversy. The Supreme Court has said that a five-member investigation team should be formed. This team should have two officers from the CBI, two officers from the state government, and one officer from FSSAI. The CBI director will monitor this investigation. During the hearing, the Supreme Court said, "We cannot allow the court to be converted into a platform for political fights." Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh government officials were investigating this case, but the Supreme Court said that the state government's SIT will not investigate the allegations of adulteration in the ghee used in making Tirupati Balaji Prasad and gave instructions regarding the formation of a new SIT.
Several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Tirupati Temple Laddu Prasad controversy. While hearing these petitions, a bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan was directed to form a new investigation team.
What happened during the hearing?
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said during the hearing that there is no doubt on the capability of the SIT. We want a senior officer of the Central Police Force to be assigned the monitor of the investigation. He said, "I investigated the matter. One thing is clear that if there is any element of truth in this allegation then it is unacceptable. There are devotees all over the country. Food security is also important. I have no objection to the investigation being conducted by the members of the SIT."
