Tel Aviv, Israel – At least seven people were injured after a vehicle struck pedestrians in northern Israel on Thursday, in what police are calling a “suspected terror attack.” The driver was arrested at the Karkur junction, located south of Haifa, according to AFP.

Police Investigate Terror Motive

Israeli police confirmed that they intercepted the suspect’s vehicle and detained the driver. They later identified the suspect as a 53-year-old Palestinian from the northern West Bank, who was married to an Israeli citizen and had been living in Israel.

“There is suspicion that this is a terror attack,” police said, adding that an active investigation is underway.

Casualties and Emergency Response

Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency response service, reported that seven people were injured, with one person in critical condition.

Paramedic Avi Cohen, who was among the first responders in Pardes Hanna-Karkur, described the scene as chaotic:

“When we arrived, the victims were lying on the ground. We immediately started treating the injured by stopping bleeding and bandaging wounds.”

Attack Amid Fragile Ceasefire Between Hamas and Israel

The incident comes during a tense ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

  • As part of the first phase of the truce, Hamas released 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
  • Fighting was temporarily paused, and Israeli troops withdrew from parts of Gaza.

Israel launched its military campaign against Hamas in Gaza after the October 7 attack, in which Hamas militants killed 1,200 people and took over 250 hostages, according to Israeli reports. Since then, Gaza health officials claim that more than 47,000 Palestinians have died.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are still investigating the suspect’s motives and whether he had ties to any terror organizations. Security measures have been heightened across the region in response to the attack.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for further updates.
