With temperatures soaring above 40°C in several districts, the Telangana School Education Department has announced a half-day schedule for schools starting March 15, 2024. The decision comes in response to the early onset of summer, aiming to protect students and teachers from the extreme afternoon heat.

Revised School Timings

Effective Dates: March 15 – April 23, 2024
New School Hours: 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM for all government-aided and private schools (primary, upper primary, and high schools).
Mid-day Meals: Lunch will be served at 12:30 PM before students are sent home.

However, special arrangements have been made for Class X students preparing for board exams:
Special coaching sessions will continue as scheduled.
Schools designated as SSC examination centers will operate from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM to accommodate exam-related activities.

  • Last working day: April 23, 2024
  • Summer vacation: April 24 – June 11, 2024
  • New academic year begins: June 12, 2024

To ensure smooth implementation, Regional Joint Directors of School Education and District Education Officers have been instructed to monitor compliance with the new schedule.

Telangana is currently experiencing hot and dry conditions, with temperatures breaching 40°C in multiple districts.

Hottest Locations Recorded on Friday (Telangana Development Planning Society Data):
Kaddam Peddur (Nirmal district) – 40.7°C (highest in the state)
Bela (Adilabad district) – 40.6°C

Earlier, the Telangana government issued an advisory urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

As the summer heat intensifies, school authorities and parents are advised to take necessary measures to ensure students remain hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
